While I am not an iMovie guy I am definitely video guy.
You could look in the help file for extending still. You could feel around
on the menus for "proerties. but try just grabbing the edge of it on the
timeline and dragging it until it fills the timeline.

You could also probably find 100 tutorials online. Or maybe Creative Cow
has an iMovie forum.

It should not be hard at all really.
