Well,
we use Lyris here for our listserver (sorry Ipswitch, but yours leaves a lot to
be desired).
I have
written a ColdFusion page for our staff that they go to when a new
dialup user signs up with us. It does the following:
1.
Adds the user to Imail (we use the registry for users) on one of our 3 Imail
servers depending on the domain
2.
Adds the users to a dialup list in Lyris, with no announcement to the
user
3.
Sends an HTML welcome letter to the user's mailbox
4.
optionally, adds the user to a machine-specific list in Lyris if they are a web
hosting customer also. This way we can send an email out to everyone who hosts
with us that is on "webserver5" to notify them that we are upgrading something
on the box or whatever.
This
is all done with checkboxes for the various lists. There is no unsubscribe
feature yet, and this page is ONLY for our staff. We have lists for customers
who subscribe to our LiveStats, ecommerce hosting, etc, so we can target users.
And Lyris will eliminate duplicate posts - for example, if a customer is on a
hosting list, as well as a dialup list. And we want to send a message out to all
hosting and dialup customers. If we send the message to both lists in the same
SMTP message, Lyris will intelligently detect which users are members of both
lists and only send the message to them once.
If you
wanted to give users the functionality of being able to self-manage their
subscriptions in Lyris, you could easilty build a CF or ASP page to do that
also. Lyris has a web interface, but it is not a simple checkbox interface for
all lists subscribed to on one screen. They would have to log into lists
separately and unsubscribe. Lyris also makes their API freely available on their
website if you're inclined to build your own app or CGI to do
this.

Subject: [imail] DuplicatesMe too... Doubles for about a week nowSpeaking of mailing lists. Is there a utility or script out there for some sort of list subscription page? What I'm looking for is 2 things. One that will add an e-mail to multiple lists with one click and not send confirmations out. And another that will add an e-mail to multiple lists and send out one e-mail stating that they have been subscribed to the following lists: ...Also un unsubscribe proggy that has the same functionality. It would be cool if it could remember what the users have or have not subscribed to and show them a bunch of checked or not checked boxes, allowing them to toggle list subscriptions on or off.Am I dreaming?Someone help me out.Brnet SporeSynergy Productions, LLC[EMAIL PROTECTED]
