Have you considered the listserv Mailman? It is written in python & runs on Linux, 
Unix, and not NT. It does all you want a listserv to do and is free. Check out 
http://www.list.org/ for details.

I too struggled with Imail's listserv for too long, and in the process of abandoning 
it for all my lists.
