Hi all,

I have had some experience with db`s and imail, infact db`s and numerous
applications!
I have four machines that run multiple db type applications, some of these
are rather large, and infact one happens to be a sql server with a dual PIII
600Mhz set of cpu`s and 3Gb Ram. The machine is really run hard...it happens
to run around 90 000 transactions an hour, and this is against a db that is
around +- 700Mb in size. The application we sur is a search engine for
scientific reference material.
On the windowze platform this type of arrandement happens to tun
sloooooooowwwwwwwlllllllly.......
Until you load the whole sql server and db into ram, infact I also run the
swap files and os in ram.......this is WONDERFULL!

So what I suggest you people do is find an application called
ramdisk.....run your imail and db server as well as the OS in ram, just make
sure its a dedicated server and is connected to a good UPS.......I rekon
most of you will be pleasantly suprised with this arrangement!

I trust this will shed some light on the matter.

Kind Regards

Neil Solomon

Are you talking about a table with a million entries from which some
relatively small number of "imail" users? I cannot imagine such a large
number of users authenticating with access or imail even on a piii 900 dual
system. HOw many users of this massive database actually authenticate a
day???

Realy the matter must take into account both the datatable size as well as
the frequency with which authentication occurs.

I have some of the same concerns because I have about 100 fields in my imail
user table. Does anyone else have any experience with table size, heavy
authentication and the value (if any) of multiple servers for the data
tables???

Seems that access would give you problems with
