I haven't seen this specifically... but...
I know Eudora (my mail client) cache's up the emails going out. If I send
40 or 50 pieces
at one (in one batch) I usually get one or two errors from Imail back to
Eudora saying that it
couldn't send/write the file (I don't know the exact message), basically
that the sends were coming
in faster than Imail could process them. In Eudora they stay queued, so I
just resend. My GUESS
is that if you are sending to a lot of users, the sending process may be
getting ahead of the SMTP
and some are falling between the cracks.
Again, a GUESS, but very similar to what I have encountered elsewhere.
