Was a JS/html problem corrected in 5.01. If you don't have the
template.zip laying around, just look at 
function validate(form) in "adduser.html". If its not there,
add the line 

(form.newuser.value.charAt(i) == '.') ||

before the line 

(form.newuser.value.charAt(i) == '_')

and that will allow "." in the userid.

with the dot in the middle?  So this user's email address would read as
