I'm not sure why you would have IMAP turned off. It seems to me that IMAP is
the single best feature justifying our use of IMail.
The other services make available information about your users to others,
and thus can represent a risk of personal information being released to
other users or the world as a whole. Since many of our users are minors, we
have also disabled these services. We might enable LDAP for other purposes,
but would not pass that information outside of our organization. Your
situation might be different. There's no harm done in leaving them disabled,
nor do I think the files take up much space on the server, esp. if there is
no data.

Currently I have Imap, Ldap, whois, and finger
services stopped on old security recommendation and wonder why I
would want them turned back on. Are they security risk or just
taking up CPU and space? Are they necessary for normal operation of

I do not see literature about these features and benefits. Imail
Version is 4.08.
