Actually, I beleive Microsoft reccomends re-applying the service packs after
installing any software which during the install process requests the
original NT installation CD.

Still, I don't know anyone who has been hurt by installing the latest
service pack - at least after waiting 3 - 6 months from the release date and
keeping their ear to the grapevine for unexpected "features". ;)

If I remember correctly, Microsoft recommends reapplying its service pack
after you install ANY software. Correct me if I am wrong, but I think it is
what Microsoft recommends!

AFAIK, MS deploys Service Packs just to their code.
So if IPSwitch DOES recommend reapplying SPs after upgrading IMail, I can
only understand that IMail change some NT system files. But if it's true,
IPSwitch should not just "recommend", they should say it clearly: "After an
upgrade, it's MANDATORY to reapply SPs, because we overwrite some system
files".

I know all of us have the same feeling (and behavior): "if you don't know
what to do, reapply Service Packs".
But honestly I was never comfortable with this. It makes me feel ignorant
(more than I like to think I am).

So I'd like IPSwitch to give us a technically better answer than a
recommendation.

| Ivan,
|
| I had the same problem as you, and it's not there anymore. Bad part is, I
| don't know for sure what fixed it. Basically, I spent a day
double-checking
| all settings against what the manual said, upgraded to the newest version
of
| Imail, and then upgraded to SP5.
| I honestly think that SP5 fixed my problem. I am now running it on all my
| servers, and have not had a hiccup since. It fixed a radius crash for our
| Ascends, fixed some MS-DNS issues, and other various things. I don't know
| if support recommends this, but it may be worth a shot.

| Hi friends,
|
| I know this had been a hot subject a couple weeks ago; and i didn't get to
| feel the pain to restart the imail web msg server twice a day. Now we
have
| about 600 users on one machine, and it stops working at least twice a day.
| I am getting nervous about this. The tech support didn't help much. I am
| wondering how did you all fix the problems. I've tried turning off the
web
| monitoring and also i was told to re-apply SP4, problem still persist. I
| also checked the logfile and determine that when web msg went down, there
is
| no significant traffic going thru the server, last nite, it went down at
| 5:00am in the morning.
|
| Any help would be appreciated,
|
| IVan
