Just off the wall:  maybe stay "standards-based" ? ie, rather than trying 
to read one maibox file format and write another mailbox file format try...

Export the accounts from SLmail, create the accounts in Imail, then for the 
mail, with a script logs on to each old mail box (you said you had the 
passwords?), POP3 reads every msg, and smtp forwards it to the the new mail 
box?  At LAN speeds, that shouldn't take too long.  One pb is that the 
clients will see the fwd headers added, so maybe my idea isn't so good, 
unless you script can prevent/strip the fwd headers.
