Seems I missed all the fun.
Before the wounds have healed over completely ...
1. I have and use a perl script to extract a user/password.
This isn't necessarily a bad thing. If a user calls up and says they can't
log in or somesuch, then I can get execute perl script in batch file on the
mail server remotely and have it mail the result (their password) to me.
Then I can log in 'as them' and see what
the story is (from their perspective) without having to ask them their
password etc. etc. Seems reasonable.
2. I hear the arguments for/against posting the routine. I don't like the
idea of some spotty herbert knowing more about 'my' system than I do. The
more we know and share (in detail) the better. Common good and all that.
2. IMUTIL doesn't process upper/lower case usernames correctly as far as I
remember
(which is why I was prompted to write my own routine)
Happy new mill.
