I just want to say something in support of Ipswitch here considering
everything that I have been seeing.
For many years, the product faltered...and then they screwed us pretty
good when ICS came along...but that was before. It's clear as day to me
that they have taken steps to rectify much of what was wrong with their
customer relations and also improve the product in the most important
ways for it's users. I don't expect any miracles, nor should anyone
here, but I'm certain that my patience will be rewarded.
For those having issues with the 2006 release, please keep in mind that
biting the bullet and upgrading early to a new version that changes some
things very fundamentally is bound to have some caveats that come with
it. While I appreciate the fact that some are willing to upgrade and
test the waters before I do, I also believe that it is unwise to do so
without a strategy to back out of the changes, or for environments where
it can have a large effect on one's business. It it not good practice
to jump to a new version quickly and then point the finger solely at
Ipswitch because from my standpoint as an onlooker, the issues that
exist are clear and it didn't take that long to see what would
transpire. Those that have rushed to upgrade and are having severe
difficulties should consider refining their own approach to any new
major software release.
Clearly Ipswitch is working on fixing the bugs that have been popping
up, but there is a general lack of patience around here that has grown
to the point that it can be detrimental. Ipswitch's timing is not an
issue at this point, and rushing things can have much worse
consequences, not to mention discouraging the people that do this work
when surely they are trying hard and seem to have good direction. If
you take for granted Ipswitch's best intentions here, those with
patience will surely be rewarded with a much improved Web interface
before long.
Just another opinion of course.
