1) IMail anti-virus scanning
2) IMail connection/DNS based anti-spam tests.
3) IMail hands-off to 'Delivery Application (default smtp32.exe or 3rd party add-on such as mxGuard).
4) IMail smtp32.exe hands message to IMail queue manager
5) IMail contecnt based anti-spam tests.
6) IMail delivery rules
7) IMail delivers message to mailbox or internet.

If using mxGuard, once it receives the message from IMail (step3) it will first do Antivirus scans then Antispam tests. The order of these tests is determined by the order they are listed in the INI file. For example, If you want native tests to run first, then invURIBL tests and finally MessageSniffer, you would confiugre the INI file as follows:
   [Global]
   SpamFilterTypes=Native, invURIBL, Sniffer

Once mxGuard is finished scanning the message it will hand it off to IMail or another 3rd party add-on (configured in the mxgaurd.ini file).

Hope that helps. Feel free to contact me off-line for additional information.

Thank you, David. Very informative.
