Thanks for your note on this. After mailing my note to the group, I looked
at this longer and finally figured out how I had solved the problem in the
first place.
My problem was that I have 2 NIC's. One external; one internal. When I
installed iMail, it hooked up my first domain to the internal NIC with an IP
address of 192.168.0.1. So whenever external mail was delivered, it was
going through the internal NIC. Obviously it was going to get an "MX Connect
Fail" error - the internal NIC can't connect to an external IP address. It
has nothing to do with a DNS problem.
To correct the problem, I just went into the registry and changed the
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ipswitch\IMail\Domains key by changing any
references to the internal NIC IP address to the IP address on the external
NIC. That took care of the problem immediately.
I had looked at the knowledge base article on "BindToIP" and had changed the
value as suggested to 0. That didn't take care of the problem for me. I had
to make the adjustment to the registry to get things working.
You might want to think about including this information in the knowledge
base. It might solve the problem for folks who run into the same difficulty.
Every time I've seen this problem come up on the mail list, the answer that
is always given is that the person's DNS is messed up. If the person has
multiple IP addresses on one or more NIC's it is just as likely (moreso I
would guess) that the problem is simply that iMail is trying to send out
mail via an internal NIC.
