I would look into common software that plays with the stack - IntelPRO Set (new version have lots of bug fixes), Um.the software you mentioned, maybe even WOL.

Two of these machines crashed 2 weeks ago, we thought it was due to a power surge. Then this last one crashed today for no rhyme or reason.
