Cal, I agree with your opinion (THE WEB is for html, not email), but alas, I'm employed by a direct marketing company. We are serving directed communications with no "choice" for digest mode (we send emails for promotions, for example, and we don't manage a "community," as such), and someone else has told me how to set myself up as the one person who can post a multipart/alternative messgae to a list, which will be distributed to all members.
