I run a large multi-list opt-in only bulk mailing service. We use Imail
pop3/smtp services to send messages to our clients. Recently I have
received complaints from users of the Netscape Mail product that they are
receiving the same messages repeatedly. I investigated this and have
isolated it to a problem with the header tag X-UIDL being left empty. When
the X-UIDL tag is empty the client seems to repeatedly request the message
from the server without removing the message on the server.

Upon further investigation at http://www.faqs.org I have learned that the
anti-spam RFC has indicated that the X-UIDL tag will never be a formal part
of the message header and is not likely to ever be adopted within an RFC as
a viable tag line.

Do any of you have an opinion about the X-UIDL header line and its use. Is
there a way to
turn off this header entirely? Has anyone else experienced this problem?

Thanks
