I think the confusion here is that Web messaging uses the IMAP-style message
store, with server-side address books, folders, etc., but isn't accessed
using the IMAP protocol on the client side.  It isn't accessed using IMAP on
the server (IPC) side, either -- this we know from disabling the IMAP
listener.  Rather, it would seem that the Imail.exe service is smart enough
to use some other sort of IPC to communicate between the Web interface and
the IMAP store, rather than making an fully out-of-process call to itself
over the IMAP well-known port (143).
