Frank,
These processes are getting spawned and persisting for a reason that might
be detectable if you look in the Imail log files, assuming your logging
SMTP. You probably know this, but "SMTP" in the log lines is the "SMTP
client" for sending mail.
Can something be screwing up all the steps the SMTP client has to go
through to send a msg:
DNS lookup
contact the SMPTD's ip address
shake hands
get a 354 to send
pick up the queued msg from disk
send it
get a 221
log an "rdliver"
Can you see any SMTP sessions that seem to get blocked or don't run to
completion in say under 30 secs, or never complete?
Do you have any other local SMTP gateway that you could have Imail relay /
"send all mail through a gateway" to see if that gateway has pb's
delivering Imail's mail?
and if Imail has these pb's delivering to the gateway?
Any particular SMTPD server that your users send mail too that is screwing
up, very sluggish, not progressing the SMTP dialog in a reasonable amt of time.
