yeah, mostly they work like a mail relay hub. 
receive/scan/can/forward.  Can be on one machine with Imail or on its own 
machine.

Scanning of outgoing is of course being a model netizen, but it may be a 
little trickier to set up (Imail has to send all mail thru gateway, that 
being the av machine)and the dedicated av scan machine would be reommended, 
because bi-directional scanning plus delivering mail directly to remote 
destinations will get heavy in a hurry.
