I
leave the html and such in the main IMail web directory.
I copy
all images files (gif, png, etc) to the domain web
directories.
I also
make certain that the web directory listed for each domain is correct. Probably
through my own omission, I have seen the web directory for domains point to the
wrong drive.

This does work, but seems tedious for 100 domains. And if I make changes to the web files were in trouble. I would have to copy it all over again. We would like just one directory, it works fine for the primary domain.
