"in principle, it should" go with seconds, as mine often do.  I know of no 
"defer sending" parameter in Imail.

If you have chronic delays, check the queue to see if a msg is really just 
sitting that without Imail trying to send it or whether Imail has tried to 
send it and had trouble.

smaller than you might think, because there is usually a lot of dead time 
in an SMTP-client session, from DNS and internet delays.  So a lots of 
other work can progress in that dead time.
