We host the domains for a number of people. We also host the email for a
number of them. Some of our customers like to host their own email with on
site servers. I tried to set up one of out clients to get mail at an on
site email server like I have done hundreds of times in the past and for
some reason I have had the worst time getting it to connect.Anyway my
question to everyone is what can I do if I can telnet to a server ports 25
and 110 but, when I look at the sys log I see the following error when I
send a test email:
06:09 10:46 SMTP-(0000012B) Trying somedomain.com
---I changed the domain info of course.
06:09 10:46 SMTP-(0000012B) Connect somedomain.com [10.10.10.10:25] (1)
06:09 10:47 SMTP-(0000012B) 421 some.dns.com Sorry, unable to contact
destination SMTP daemon.
06:09 10:47 SMTP-(0000012B) SMTP_DELIV_FAILED
06:09 10:47 SMTP-(0000012B) >QUIT
My question is what can I do after this? Could it be possible to telnet to
ports 25 and 110 only to have the firewall block the mail server from
sending the actual mail? I did a tracert and it worked once. Then suddenly I
could not telnet or tracert to the mail server. The client is using Novell
Groupwise and we use Imail on NT.
What would some of you have done to troubleshoot this issue?
