Has anyone actually been able to tie an external anti-virus
program to IMail using Knowledgebase article
http://support.ipswitch.com/kb/IM-20000517-DM01.htm ?
Specifically, I am looking for a way to use Norton
Antivirus 2000 with IMail. From the article, it appears that
one would need an intermediate piece of software or script
to deal with all the checking, renaming and re-renaming.
If there is a better solution, I am open to it. Better meaning
easier to implement, not really better performance-wise.
This server has less than 250 users so scanning overhead
shouldn't be bad (I don't think I will need a separate
machine for scanning).
Am I barking up the wrong tree? Using NAV on the command-line
and passing it a file name as a parameter will cause NAV to
scan it, but I am not sure (I looked at their knowledgebase)
how to get a result/know the outcome of the scanning. One
strategy would be to just let NAV take care of it and automatically
archive any file that has a virus, but I want to at least have
the body of the email forwarded to me (which has been covered
in a separate thread and is quite easy to forward rules based
checks - I want to forward based on NAV's result).
Hope this doesn't sound too confusing. :-)
Any tips from someone who has done this would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Shawn.
