This a good idea if you are on an all windows LAN, I investigated using MS
LDAP server but unfortunately it does not support plain text
authentification or no authentification so it was not much use with the
client we use. Using the MS one gives loads of benefits as you can just add
OU's and add contacts to it or intergrate with the user info already there
so I was really keen. It's also great from a programmatic point of view
because you can access and modify the data using the ADSI programming
interface.
