Yeah, Microsoft has done some great things. Their operating systems have
made it so that trained monkeys can run mission critial servers, causing the
collective IQ of this industry to drop by huge proportions.
Also, because of the instability of NT and the applications running on NT,
they've helped the job market grow by huge proportions. NT seems to require
nearly 2-3x more man hours to maintain than other popular operating systems.
I've heard of companies that have folks hired on for the sole purpose of
doing controlled restarts of their NT servers.
How sad is this?
