We went from Exchange to IMail and determined that it couldn't be done.

However, for users who really need to save messages from the last several
years, you can get them to download their messages from the Exchange server
to files on their hard drives or network space, then they would still have
all their messages. Before downloading messages, make sure the users have
ample space on their machines or on a network drive to store lots of
messages. It's a good idea to tell the users to clean up their email before
downloading messages from the server. This process works well with the
versions of Outlook ('97 or '98) which come with Exchange 5.5, not really
sure how well it would work with other email clients or earlier versions of
Exchange.

Does that help?

Microsoft has those Exchange mailboxes locked up pretty tightly. I imagine
it would be very difficult to get the mail out of there. You might want to
consider having the Exchange server running at the same time as IMail for a
short time to let people get their old mail out of there if they need it.
