Try to convince the powers that be that this way lies madness. We tried
that, and got only grief. If a new box is really not an option, try
used/old. Firewall software doesn't have to run on the latest and
greatest machine. Got anything lying around not doing anything? Look
into Unix-based firewalls if you're really strapped for cash. We had one
running on a 486/50 with acceptable performance for the light user load
we had on it.
