SqlMail actually is a mail client. It can talk to MS Exchange, MS NT Mail,
or a POP3/SMTP mail server. But it can only talk to one of those three via
MAPI. It can only get MAPI from MS Messaging (no longer shipped), MS
Outlook 97, MS Outlook 98, or MS Outlook 2000, or supposedly some 3rd party
programs. But Ms Messaging and MS Outlook 97 have an infamous bug which
prevents mail from being delivered if the messaging client or outlook client
is closed. Messaging was fixed in NT sp3 but that fix was never shipped
again in susbsequent service packs. So in effect you have to use either MS
Outlook 98 or Ms Outlook 2000 and you have to install either one of them in
workgroup mode so you can get a MAPI profile. And the MAPI profile has to
be available to the Sql7 NT account under which it is started. It will not
work with the System account.
Now to answer the question:
Imail is a pop3/smtp mail server and can be used with sqlMail but you can't
get rid of either MS Outlook 98 or MS Outlook 2000 because that's where it
gets the mapi from.
I keep reading about some 3rd party programs that can provide MAPI to
SqlMail but I haven't actually found any.

Actually SQL Mail dumps it to Outlook 2000 (since it is a MAPI client)
We want to stop using SQL Mail and outlook.
Can Imail do this?
