This is true, but imail1.exe is the delivery mechanism (as you said, the
sender), so assuming typical messages, it will probably only run for very
short periods of time, closing that instance when the message is delivered
(the same time it takes to get the 'message delivered' from Web MSG). I
suppose the run time could be longer, with a large list of addresses, or a
large attachment, but still, it should close when done. If you had lots of
Web MSG users, it is possible you will see multiple imail1.exe in TMgr, but
with changing PIDs, as new instances come and go. Guess my assumption of
your being able to see them, is dependant on load, like many things. What
I'm trying to say here is that they may show up, but close when done. If
they don't close, something is not right and it needs investigating.
IMail Client is that application on the server, shown in the IMail group.
One could run it as the program file /imail/imail.exe and that would open
the program (and task manager shows it as imail.exe, not imail1.exe). Not
likely this is the cause of the open imail1.exes, except when using IMail
Client and actually sending an email message. Normal operations of IMail
Client (reading mailbox or messages in it) do not show imail1.exe running.
Using the CLU is the most likely cause (in my experience) of having
imail1.exe processes open and not closing. I suppose in a high load Web Msg
situation, a failed message delivery process, could leave a imail1.exe open,
but I've not seen this. If it were (actually left for any reason), one could
still 'kill' it, if open for more than say 30-60 minutes (with the same
PID). If you see one or more in this state, I'd kill them and check again at
2X Queue Timer (an hour or so), to see if they have reoccured. I cannot
think of a reason they might, but just to be safe, a second look would not
hurt!
