Oh - and STILL is heavily used by spammers. Even worse, many viri/worms are
using <> as the return address as well so it would be an effective way of
blocking viri at the front door.
It IS unfortunate that there may be no way to somehow qualify a "valid"
BOUNCE message (e.g. a "stateful" checker, that inspects the header for the
reference to an outbound queue number on the local server to ascertain that
it is truly in response to a prior OUTBOUND message - maybe with a timeout
of 5 minutes). Or, it would be nice if someone would write an SMTP RFC that
defines a specific message format for messages from <>, requiring that the
header references identifying information by the sender of the bounced
email. This way we could finally reject improperly formatted <> messages.
