If they told you you must purchase this for all of your machines
I'd be a bit skeptical if this is legal. The legal process called
'tying' the FTC will investigate and prosecute on their own. You
have the right to run each machine as you wish.
I have considerable experience with this in the medical field where
different surgical manufacturers have tried to tie other competitive
machines to warranties and system-wide use of disposable products.
This sounds a bit like that method. It boils down to being able to
use what ever accessories you want with any surgical device regardless
of the original manufacturer. It is illegal to restrict or attempt
to restrict the use of only original accessories on all machines.
