OK problem solved.  I was on the same wave length as you.  

First.  I found buried in the Knowledge base that Imail needs SP5 or
greater.  SO I updated to SP6a

Second. I used a utility program to capture all of the usernames and
passwords, and then removed Imail completely.  I verified the registry for
removal of all instances of IMail.  I re-installed IMail and all of the
patches, and then set up the bare bones domains.  I then took the text files
and modified them to be line entries for a batch file to add the users from
the command line.  I then copied back the users folders, and the spool
folder.

All is well in Corn Country.

I must have corrupted the registry with the import and export opf certain
hives for Imail.


Thanks for your help, and I hope this will help someone else if they (heaven
forbid) have to go through this.
