On a PIII 600 there is no more than 10% load coming from the backup software, if you 
do not use software kompression.
The most impact is from disc access, but this will also happen if you have the 
software running on an other computer.

Yes, all is backed up, except locked files that are in use from users during backup 
time. We can live with that.

I think DDS4 is as fast as DLT, but DLT is more reliable. I use DLT.

We use Veritas Backup Exec on NT 4.0. This is a similar software to the W2K backup 
utility.
