I would think the hoping from server to server would be too time consuming,
no?
How about DNS?
User logs in with name / pass / domain
Script does DNS lookup of domain to get IP addy and sends the details to
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:5800\?username=blah&password=blah
Or you could store the domains and their respective servers in a db.

yes exactly, we have now several e-mail servers and we want only one login
screen to capture the user's email adress and password in order to drive
them to the appropriate server their e-mail account is located in fact.

Sorry, I was thinking to small! To clarify: You have multiple iMail servers
all with different domains?
Is the problem that you don't know which domain goes with which server?

well we have used a CGI script and user did login with the entire e-mail
adress wich solve the problem you mention here under, the only thing is to
check one server if user is not in that one it should start a new search on
the other servers .. and so till it found the right user on the right iMail
server.

Well, yeah, anything is possible. You could manage that with ASP and ASPTear
if you had to.
But why? What happens if you have [EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED],
and neither one ever changed from the default password of 'password'?
I've seen iMail sites that have three input boxes: user name, password, and
a drop down list of domains. This seems to be the best solution if you want
a single entry point.
If I'm misinterpreting your goal, let me know.

Subject: [IMail Forum] IMail Server Access script
Hi,
Could someone tell me if we could find a ready made script that:
on a web page give the users the possibility to enter their user id and
password and than give them the access to the webmail interface.
But due to the fact that we are using more than one iMail server the script
should of course first check to see if the user ID correspond (lets say) to
server A, if not check on server B .. if the user is found THEN the access
to the appropriate server (where the user is) is given and the webmail
interface showned to the user.
thanks for your support.
Michel
