It will work. :)))
For M1's outgoing, M1 "smtp:send all mail through gateway: ip of M2"
For M1's incoming, M2 is the primary MX hostname for all domains on M1.
Set up M2 as a relay for the domains of M1, as shown in the docs, KB,
list archives, ad infinitum.
