That mailbox does exist. IMail uses "-" as a delimiter and allows you to use
"[EMAIL PROTECTED]". It was considered a feature. For example, if
you go to www.some_domain.com and they ask for an E-mail address, but you're worried
they will give it out, you could give them "[EMAIL PROTECTED]", so if
you start receiving spam, you know who to blame. <G>

Yes it is.

No, it should not. That's a feature of IMail. It can certainly cause problems -- it
would be much better if it only accepted the mail if the mailbox existed -- but it's
the intended behavior.

Again, the intended behavior. That's the point of folders. With POP3, he can get it
by using daffyduck-john as the username, but normally he will only get his regular
main.mbx E-mail (since POP3 doesn't support folders).

Not quite right. You get access to a folder in a mailbox that does exist.

> what does this all mean?

It means you have discovered a feature in IMail, that can have drawbacks.

... and hence the reason for the feature.
