wrt Ben's comment, I think there were originally two different questions
asked:
1) are there any significant benefits to running IMail on Win2K vs running
it on WinNT4 ?
I believe the consensus here was that it varied depending on your needs and
there may not be a compelling reason to do so.
2) is the best upgrade path from WinNT to Win2K via upgrade or fresh
install.
I believe the consensus was that a fresh install was the way to go.
Certainly in my opinion it is.
The factor that comes into all of this is most likely to be the longer term
issue of migration paths, at both app and OS levels. There is a known
migration path from WinNT4 to Win2K at both an OS and Imail application
levels. In the case of the OS, we're recommending a clean install over a
migration, even though MS supports the "upgrade" approach. Will there be an
easy OS or Imail migration path from WinNT4 to WinXP? Based on previous
experience, probably not. So if at some point in the future you think you
might want to run IMail on WinXP, and you're on WinNT4 now, moving to Win2K
(via a clean install, and a registry copy of the IMail hives) is probably a
good idea.
