Roger,
I used them to host my website a couple of years ago. Then, they apparently
decided that I was getting too much traffic, and moved my website to a new
box that was completely inaccessible to me via any means. I couldn't even
find out what STATE the new server was in, let alone access my files.
Then, my entire website finally disappeared. Tech support would not give me
contact information for the actual sysadmin in charge of the server my
website was on, and (he) refused to return anyone's pages, even that of
Verio's own tech support staff.
After my web site had been down for over a week, and absolutely no
resolution was anywhere in sight, I put together my own servers (at
considerable expense) and hooked-up with a co-location deal. I notified the
sysadmin allegedly in charge of my website via FedEx (signature required)
overnight mail about all of the torment he had put me through, and the
thousands of dollars he had cost my company. I never heard a single word
back from them. They even continued to charge me for hosting my website,
long after I had moved it to my own servers.
I did end-up getting the last laugh though. One of my telecom consulting
customers was about to sign 1+ million dollar contract with them, and came
to me for advice at the last minute. Needless to say, recounting my story to
him cost Verio the deal. I may have only been a $75/month hosting gig to
them, but it cost them a lot more in the long run to screw with me. What
comes around, goes around.
I wouldn't trust Verio any farther than I could throw them, but that's just
my $.02 worth.
