No.  The MX record is an IP address, which just isn't valid.  It's like if 
the post office gets an envelope with a phone number instead of an 
address.  Sure, they could figure out who it is supposed to go to (and they 
might try in a small town, for example).  But you can't expect that the 
mail will be delivered.
