Guy:
First, I apologize for the HTML settings. I had that as my default. Hope
this is correct now.
Second, V4.06 is only from 1994 so I am sure you were around THEN! <chuckle>
Third, I can't find any place in Imail server to set SMTP Auth anything.
However, it seems that things may be working as needed by setting it at the
client level. I have a couple of users who can't do that with their client,
but I can handle them by including their IP address in the table. So, I
think I have the problem solved. A look at the logs seem to indicate a lack
of spam coming through.
Thanks to all who chipped in their experience and knowledge to help me!
Dave

Dave,
It's both a server- and client-side issue. Can't point you step by step on
how to do it in version 4.06 (I don't think I was even born then) but you
want to enable SMTP AUTH *reporting* on your IMail Server. IMail will always
accept SMTP AUTH but you want your server to "advertise" to senders that it
supports it.
Then, for "modern" e-mail clients, there is an option in the SMTP (outgoing)
server settings which could read something like "My server requires
authentication". The wording and location of this setting vary among e-mail
client programs.
One last thing, if I may: Please turn off rich-text/HTML when posting to
this list. Again, the way to do this varies with the client you are using
but it would be greatly appreciated if you took the time to do it :)

OK, I've just about got most of my problems with closing my open relay but
can't figure out where I set SMTP Auth required. Is this set at the server
(Imail V4.06) or only at the mail clients? I can't see anywhere in Imail to
do it.
