Declude. F-Prot DOS is fine. Declude will use the same F-Prot.exe DOS command
line scanner (included with FP-Win) in either case. If the only reason you
will ever use F-Prot is for Declude, then save yourself $20 and get the DOS
version.

Do you have the any issues with f-prot for dos (i assume that's what you are
using) not running as a service so that the console must always be logged in?
This caught my eye from a message earlier and has me concerned. We are
looking at the various antivirus packages to work with Declude and this would
definately persuade me away from f-prot if that is the case.

I would be very interested in knowing what F-Prot is missing. My Declude
install uses three distinct engines with F-Prot being my first in line. After
thousands of infected messages, nothing has fallen through for Mcafee or Trend
to catch. I only continue to run the extra scanners to give the client "warm
fuzzies."
What did F-Prot miss? Can I get a copy of them? I am serious about this
request. Although quite happy with F-Prot, I wouldn't hesitate to change if I
found a real problem.
Did you look at the Windows version before buying it? IMO, it's a good
no-frills scanner for the desktop, and at $2(or less) a seat, the price can't
be beat. BUT... I would never consider it for server on-demand use. It just
seems obvious to me that it isn't targeted for the server market. My guess is
the scheduler would work fine as a service using srvany, but I haven't tried
it - again I don't think it's intended for that use.
I use an FTP script to update F-Prot, it is rock-solid, took 10 minutes to
write, another 10 to test, and has been running reliably for months.

I purchased F-Prot for Windows and wish I got McAfee or Norton! The F-Prot
does not run as a service so I have to keep the server conole logged on all
the time so that F-Prot will get it's updates. Speaking of updates! There
updater program seems to FAIL A LOT! It is not very forgiving when it comes to
the Internet being busy or even there server being busy so we don't get
updated everytime it tries to update. I have found a lot of viruses that have
been released this year are not even detected by F-Prot! Ouch! :-( Hope this
has helped you in making a choice about what brand to use.
