we had a very UNtechnical client runing this way very successfully. Exchange for internal collab stuff, and Imail for external mailboxes. All they had to do in Exchange was set up two personalities in Lookout, which even the dumbest of them understood. Even when somebody sent mail to an internal user but using the user's public email address, the mail still arrived. >without problem we thought that maybe there's a way to use IMail to handle >the email portion when at the client's and use Exchange for the >collaboration internally. try my exchange/internal+imail/external suggestion with a test internal user or two. another idea: in the DMZ, you could set up a webmail server that read POP or IMAP boxes on the exchange box. the strict firewall would allow ONLY the DMZ webmail server through, which would be a tiny, simple allowance by the firewall.
