Greetings. I have a Windows 2000 server which runs, among other services, Imail 6.05 used as mail backend for a web application. Let's call this original domain domain1.org. The content owner has another site, with a different domain, and wishes to add that web site and mail capability to this server. Let's call this new domain domain2.org. I had the ISP update the DNS and MX configuration to have the new IP address for domain2.org go to the server housing domain1.org, and added that new IP address to Windows.
Thus the server has two IP addresses. Let's call them 1.1.1.1 and 1.1.1.2 I configured the web server (O'Reilly's WebSite Pro 2) to have multiple identities, and it works fine. Each domain has its own top level document root. These domains are completely unrelated, and we want no overlap of any kind. Imail did not go so well. When I added the new Host, I wanted its user directories to be stored in a separate directory from domain1. Imail refused to do that. It insisted on putting domain2's directory as that of domain1. Fortunately, I had backed up the user directories. After many frustrating attempts to get Imail to have this new host be DIFFERENT than domain1, I finally had to remove the second host from the registry of Imail. It was quite frustrating. I then had to have Imail Administrator find the orphaned users, and reconfigure them (password, level of access, etc.). I finally got things back the way they were, as far as the mail goes. I need to add the second domain and have this server handle mail for both. I thought that would be accomplished by simply Add Host, bind it to the new IP address, and specify a new directory for users. But Imail kept wanting to use the same user directory.
