That's quite normal.

That's because the E-mails can't be delivered. If the remote mail server
is down, the E-mail will stay in the spool until it can be delivered or
until it has to be returned.
Note that there is a "Q" and a "D" file for each E-mail, so there are only
about 1/2 as many E-mails in there as you may think.
The one with the "~" in it is one that is locked, and currently being
processed.

You can use the IMail Administrator, and use the "View Queue" to take a
look at those files (or use Notepad to view them).
