| sounds like a good idea. IMGate stops 90+ % of spam "hands-off", so
| putting sniffer after IMGate would let it work on the remainder.

:-)

| When will your sniffer client for your server be available for *nix?

We have run static tests on our Linux 7.2 box. We still need to compile one
to test on a BSD box (that's in the works). All indications are that the
program will port without modification to both platforms. We are looking for
a few folks to test with before we officially say it's ready.

| It's always a question of cost, how much is an IMGate user
| willing to pay,
| if anything, to reject that last 10 or 5%?? I would be interested in a
| metered service base on total msgs, not a flat fee.

That's an interesting thought. We've discussed that model as part of a more
advanced service for larger systems. However, we've decided that it doesn't
make much sense in the current encarnation.

We've worked out the economics of the current system based on our research
and experience and that model works something like this:

If you were to manage your own rule bases to catch the spam that slipped
through your other filters, you could easily spend more than half an hour
per day making that happen and adjusting the rules to avoid false positives,
etc... At a minimum, sniffer takes care of the majority of that work and
costs less than $1/day for a subscription... so it's a no-brainer (We don't
know any SAs that make $2/hour).

The next piece is that no matter how much time you spend managing your
rules, you will only be able to create them for the spam you see... our
Message Sniffer team collects spam from a much wider field - so we will
frequently stop spam that you have never seen before.

There are also technology issues that are solved by our pattern matching
technology. There's more information about all of this on the web site.

I hope this answers your questions.

Thanks,
_M
