hmmm

that's the default mailhost name, don't touch it.

Imail hostnames, in the DNS namespace, have nothing to the the MS
networking machine name in the NetBIOS namespace.

doesn't matter.

sure, no need to change the DNS hostname, just change the A record of the
MX hostname, to have the incoming mail arrive at the new box's ip.

>I have already created an A record for mercury pointing to its public IP
>address. (207.190.36.135)

ok, but no need to invent a new name for the new box

old:

laserver.todhunter.com. A 207.190.36.130

new:

laserver.todhunter.com. A 207.190.36.135

then MX records don't change at all:

todhunter.com. MX 10 laserver.todhunter.com.

magik, huh?

>Our users have mail.todhunter.com as their mail server in their email
>client.

old:

mail.todhunter.com A 207.190.36.130

new:

mail.todhunter.com A 207.190.36.135

>I already have an A record set up for mail, pointing to the
>current IP address of the mail server (207.190.36.130). I want to keep

sure, no need to hassle them with your switchover.

>There is no hosts file in the drivers\etc folder either.

Imail uses that file only to decide which @recipientdomain to relay for,
not to resolve local mail domains.
