Last night I finally fully activated Webshield on our new server. I added
only one content filter which only caught two test messages. By 7:30 this
morning webshield aka mailscan was consuming 70% to 88% of our processor
resources. In addition when I looked at the webshield statistics it showed
we had passed 128 thousand messages in two hours which I find very
difficult to believe. In fact when I restarted webshield it jumped
immediately to over 200 messages processed. I am not sure I am confident
it is ONLY counting messages. I will examine the logs to see what the
truth was later.

It appears the load is inflicted totally on the virus scan function of
Webshield.

Has anyone else seen this kind of behaviour?

We have about 54 domains all of which I had to tediously enter into
Webshield along with the "domain.com." aliases. Some of these NEVER
receive e-mail. But I CAN see that there WERE about 1500 messages received
in a two minute span at 7:50 AM which I find astonishing. But from the
Webshield mail log they look legitimate.

Is there an easy way to take a count of messages received by each iMail
account on a daily basis?

Until I figure out how to run webshield without bringing our server to its
knees, I have disabled it again.
