The RFCs are the fundamental building blocks of Internet software. Yep, I'm sure you'd have been overjoyed to wait for..oh, say, three days?...before we could convince Ipswitch that this *might* be a standards issue, and another who-knows-how-long before the fix could be adequately regression tested. We know it breaks peering, for one thing, but there must be a lot of undocumented areas that will be affected as well, or Ipswitch wouldn't be pushing back as hard. This thread has shown us that an overnight fix is impossible, so your declaration that the whole discussion has been "vacuous" is ignorant of that substantial progress. Would you prefer that we only pursue this thread when *every Imail server can no longer communicate with a major ISP*? When Ipswitch suddenly realizes, under duress, that they may have to support EOL versions, since they have the same issue? You'd be more comfy with the thread being "on-topic" if there were millions of people freaking out, flooding Ipswitch's voice mailboxes and this slow-as-molasses list, dropping Imail by the dozen when they couldn't get immediate resolution? When all of *your own* mailboxes are filled by your hosting customers? Or maybe you think we should just wait and complain to AOL? I think the only reason you felt at liberty to dismiss the thread is that Ipswitch *has* actually responded and has proactively added this issue to the mix. Like it or not, you feel more comfortable now. Pretending that we didn't get anywhere is disingenuous. BTW, it's common practice to include your name, even a first name, on discussion lists.
