Good afternoon everyone!

I've recently made some changes to SMTP security on my server. I'm running
I-Mail Server 5.09 using the standard I-Mail database for both IP-based on
virtual hosts.

I changed to "relay for addresses" and had all my clients switch to using
SMTP authentication. I've run into some strange problems with only a few
clients, and I cannot figure out for the life of me what's going on.

I've looked on the knowledgebase and the only cause I could find was a
firewall. None of the clients are, to my knowledge, behind a firewall; if
they are, it would be behind a software-based firewall.

In any case, the problem is that they are unable to authenticate sometimes,
and others, it authenticates without problems. It has been working fine for
a while, and suddenly it seems that sometimes it doesn't work, without any
changes having been made to the clients or the server.

I find that as soon as I restart the SMTP service it seems to authenticate
fine immediately. It will then work for a while. When it stops working, it
refuses to relay and the client is unable to authenticate. Without
restarting the SMTP service, the only way to get it to relay is to wait for
an extended period without any attempts.

I'm stumped and a little frustrated. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks!
