The SMTPD service that does the SMTP AUTH is either failing (the mail client program see the smtp auth attempt rejected as bad user) or not returning when called by the master SMTPD service that called the SMTP AUTH process (the mail client program just hangs, no progress). Which is it with your clients? failure or hanging? This has been a problem for a long time. 5.09 was a good version for me, but we were lucky not have SMTP AUTH quit on us. 5.09 was certainly vulnerable to this failure. >I'm stumped and a little frustrated. Does anyone have any ideas? There's no silver bullet, but try re-installing SP6a.
